Bengaluru: A tragic accident claimed the life of a 15-year-old girl, Tejaswini Rao, in Bengaluru’s V V Puram on Saturday when a wooden survey pole fell from the fifth floor of an under-construction building. Tejaswini, a Class 10 student at Vasavi Vidyaniketan, was walking home from school when the incident occurred around 12:45 pm.

The pole, used for supporting construction on the sixth floor of a ground-plus-six-storey structure, collapsed near National High School Road, narrowly missing two other pedestrians. Tejaswini was immediately rushed to NIMHANS hospital but succumbed to her injuries by 2:15 pm.

Her father, Sudhakar Rao, filed a complaint against the builder, accusing them of negligence and inadequate safety measures. The police registered a case under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.

Authorities have seized the pole and are examining CCTV footage from the area. Forensic experts have been involved to establish the exact cause of the accident, while efforts are underway to identify the property owner and assess compliance with construction regulations.

This tragic incident has highlighted the urgent need for stricter enforcement of safety standards at construction sites to prevent such avoidable losses.
