Amid growing complaints over rent disputes and security deposit deductions in Bengaluru, a tenant’s social media post praising his landlord for a smooth and fair deposit refund has gone viral online.
The tenant described the experience as a “breath of fresh air” at a time when landlord-tenant conflicts are increasingly becoming common across the city’s competitive rental market.
Tenant praises landlord’s approach
According to the viral Reddit post, the landlord deducted only Rs 5,000 towards cleaning charges after the tenants vacated the property and returned the remaining deposit without arguments or unnecessary deductions.
The tenant also mentioned that the landlord chose not to charge for a damaged wooden door fixture, reportedly saying the building was old and the wood had naturally weakened over time.
The tenants, who identified themselves as bachelors, said the landlord remained understanding and non-intrusive throughout their stay.
Rental tensions growing in Bengaluru
The post comes amid wider discussions around Bengaluru’s rising rental disputes involving steep rent hikes, delayed security deposit refunds, repainting charges, parking disagreements, and restrictions imposed on bachelor tenants.
Real estate brokers say such conflicts have increased significantly in high-demand localities including Bellandur, Whitefield, and Sarjapur Road due to strong tenant demand and limited housing supply.
Social media reacts positively
Many social media users praised the landlord’s attitude, saying respectful relationships between tenants and property owners have become increasingly rare.
Some landlords also joined the online discussion, noting that trust and mutual respect benefit both sides and help avoid unnecessary disputes.
Several tenants shared similar experiences where landlords returned deposits promptly without surprise deductions or intrusive behaviour during tenancy periods.
Debate over rental practices continues
The discussion has once again highlighted ongoing concerns in Bengaluru’s housing market, where both tenants and landlords are seeking clearer expectations and better communication regarding rental agreements, maintenance costs, and security deposit policies.
As rental demand continues to rise in the city’s IT corridors, experts believe balanced and transparent landlord-tenant relationships will become increasingly important in reducing disputes and improving rental experiences
