Fruit lovers in Bengaluru can look forward to two special mango and jackfruit melas this year as organisers aim to promote locally grown produce and address concerns over fruit quality and rising prices in the market.

Officials associated with the initiative said the melas would help consumers access fresh, naturally ripened fruits directly from growers across Karnataka.

Focus on quality and local produce

According to organisers, many consumers have recently complained about sour taste, inconsistent quality, and higher prices of fruits sold in city markets. Experts believe this is partly because fruits are being transported from distant regions, affecting freshness and increasing transportation costs.

Vedamurthy, associated with the mela initiative, reportedly said locally sourced fruits from Karnataka farmers offer better taste and quality while also supporting regional agriculture.

Melas to support farmers and consumers

The mango and jackfruit festivals are expected to create a direct platform for farmers to sell their produce without middlemen. Organisers say the events will benefit both growers and consumers by ensuring fair prices and fresher produce.

The melas are also likely to feature different varieties of mangoes and jackfruits popular across Karnataka, attracting food enthusiasts and families from across Bengaluru.

Seasonal festivals gain popularity

Fruit melas in Bengaluru have become increasingly popular in recent years, especially during summer months when seasonal produce is in high demand.

Apart from promoting healthy eating, such events also encourage awareness about traditional fruit varieties and sustainable farming practices.

Officials expect strong public participation this year as residents continue to show growing interest in farm-fresh local produce and regional food culture.
