Bengaluru faces impending road woes as the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) gears up to embark on a major infrastructure overhaul. Nearly 150 km of city roads are slated for white topping, a process involving the replacement of traditional asphalt with a more durable concrete layer to mitigate pothole formation.

BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath has initiated preparations for the groundbreaking ceremony, directing officials to expedite the comprehensive project. Scheduled across 15 packages, with 13 finalized and contractors already engaged, the initiative awaits government clearance for the remaining two packages.

Critical to the project’s success is coordination with various departments like the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) to relocate utilities without road damage. Nath emphasized strict adherence to timelines and minimal disruption to traffic flow, urging collaboration with traffic police to implement necessary route adjustments.

The ambitious endeavor, sanctioned by the Karnataka government, responds to longstanding infrastructure challenges. Already, 145 km of roads have undergone white topping in previous phases, with additional segments slated for enhancement under urban development plans.

The initiative underscores BBMP’s commitment to enhancing Bengaluru’s road network, ensuring sustainable and resilient urban mobility for its residents.
