The Bengaluru Traffic Police conducted a city-wide enforcement drive from March 23 to 29, booking hundreds of motorists for drunk driving and speeding violations.
The special drive, carried out across all 53 traffic police stations, involved extensive checks aimed at improving road safety and curbing reckless driving, particularly during late hours.
Over 42,000 vehicles checked
During the week-long operation, police personnel inspected a total of 42,642 vehicles at multiple checkpoints across Bengaluru.
Officials said the initiative was designed to deter repeat offenders and send a strong message against dangerous driving practices.
616 cases of drunk driving booked
Data released by the traffic police revealed that 616 motorists were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Authorities identified drunk driving as one of the leading causes of road accidents in the city, especially during weekends and late-night hours.
Speeding violations also targeted
In addition to alcohol checks, enforcement teams used interceptors and speed detection cameras to identify violators. A total of 279 cases were registered for overspeeding.
Police collected fines amounting to ₹2.8 lakh from those exceeding speed limits.
Continued crackdown on reckless driving
Officials stated that such surprise checks will continue in the coming weeks, particularly on accident-prone stretches and high-speed corridors.
The drive is part of a broader strategy to reduce road fatalities and improve compliance with traffic regulations.
Public urged to follow rules
The Bengaluru Traffic Police have urged motorists to strictly adhere to traffic rules and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.
Authorities emphasised that sustained enforcement, combined with public awareness, is essential to making city roads safer for all users
