A proud moment for Bengaluru’s canine training excellence, a five-year-old Belgian Malinois named Babi has emerged as the best police dog at the prestigious All-India Police Duty Meet 2025–26 held in Nagpur.
Trained at the CRPF Dog Breeding and Training School (DBTS), Babi outperformed over 100 dogs from 29 teams representing state police and paramilitary forces. She also secured first place in the tracker dog category, cementing her position as one of the finest working dogs in the country.
From Bengaluru training grounds to national glory
Bred and trained in Bengaluru, Babi showed exceptional promise from an early stage. Officials credit her success to rigorous training routines, real-world exposure, and precise handling techniques developed at DBTS.
Her journey reflects the growing reputation of Bengaluru as a hub for specialised canine training in India.
Proven performance in challenging conditions
Beyond training grounds, Babi demonstrated her capabilities during active deployment in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, a Naxal-affected region. Operating in high-pressure environments, she consistently delivered results, earning recognition as a dependable and disciplined performer.
Her field experience played a crucial role in shaping her abilities ahead of national-level competition.
Precision training for excellence
Recognising her potential, the CRPF brought Babi back to Bengaluru in 2023 for advanced training. The focus was on enhancing precision, control, and consistency—qualities that ultimately distinguished her performance at the national meet.
Strong bond behind success
A key factor in Babi’s achievement was her close coordination with her handler, Basavaraj. Their mutual trust, timing, and seamless communication translated into flawless execution during the competition.
Team triumph for CRPF K9 unit
Adding to the celebration, the CRPF’s Bengaluru-trained K9 unit clinched the overall team championship. Other standout performers included K9 Stoney, who was named second-best narcotics detection dog.
Dogs like Babi, Viggy, Stoney, and Greta collectively secured multiple gold medals across categories such as tracking, explosive detection, and narcotics search.
A testament to dedication and discipline
Babi’s achievement highlights the critical role of trained canine units in national security and law enforcement. Her journey—from Bengaluru’s training facilities to the national stage—stands as an inspiring example of discipline, teamwork, and excellence.
