A joint operation by wildlife authorities and police in Bengaluru has led to the seizure of several exotic animals valued at nearly ₹2 crore, triggering an extensive investigation into a suspected wildlife trafficking network.

The operation was carried out at a residence in the city following intelligence inputs about the illegal possession and trade of protected and exotic species.

Rare animals recovered

Officials reportedly recovered a range of exotic animals and birds from the premises. The seized creatures are believed to have been sourced through illegal channels and were allegedly being kept without the required permissions and documentation.

Authorities are now verifying the origin of the animals and examining whether they were brought into the country through wildlife smuggling routes.

Probe into trafficking network

Investigators suspect the case could be linked to a larger interstate or international wildlife trafficking operation.

Wildlife officials are analysing records, digital evidence and financial transactions to identify suppliers, buyers and intermediaries involved in the trade.

The seized animals have been shifted to authorised rescue and rehabilitation facilities where they will receive veterinary care and assessment.

Growing concern over exotic pet trade

The case has once again highlighted the growing demand for exotic pets and the challenges faced by enforcement agencies in curbing illegal wildlife trade.

Experts warn that trafficking of exotic species not only threatens biodiversity but can also pose risks related to animal welfare and the spread of diseases.

Authorities have urged the public to refrain from purchasing or keeping exotic wildlife without proper legal documentation.
