Bengaluru: A 34-year-old software employee has filed a molestation complaint after an unidentified man allegedly assaulted her near her apartment in Kadubeesanahalli on Friday night. She also accused the police of delaying her FIR, claiming she was made to visit multiple police stations before her complaint was finally accepted two days later.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m., when the woman returned home on her scooter. Before entering her apartment complex, she went to feed stray dogs, carrying a bucket of food. While doing so, an unknown man approached her and began touching her inappropriately.
Shocked, she struck him with her empty bucket and screamed for help. A biker who happened to arrive nearby caused the assailant to flee briefly, but once the biker left, the man returned and again attempted to grab her hands and pull her clothes. Her continuous shouting alerted the apartment’s security guard, but the attacker jumped the gate and escaped.
Police made her travel between stations
After informing her family, her brother stepped out to search for the man. They found a Hoysala patrol vehicle, whose personnel joined the search, and later advised her to visit the police station to register a complaint.
The woman went to Bellandur police station the next day and waited the entire day. Officers did not file the complaint, stating they needed to conduct a spot mahazar and verify CCTV footage from nearby cameras. Two days later, she was told the jurisdiction fell under Parappana Agrahara police station and was asked to go there instead. She finally filed the FIR at Parappana Agrahara police station.
Victim says she can identify the accused
The complainant said the accused was tall, young, and unfamiliar to the locality. CCTV footage from her apartment complex captured parts of the incident. She said she was wearing a helmet when she hit him with the bucket, but despite her resistance, the man was aggressive and repeatedly misbehaved.
Police say efforts are on to nab suspect
A senior police officer said the available CCTV footage is unclear and that there are no concrete leads yet. He added that efforts are on to identify and arrest the accused, and that teams are reviewing additional CCTV cameras and scanning for known offenders in the area. Residents expressed concern, stating that similar incidents have occurred in the locality and police responsiveness needs improvement.
