Bengaluru: Four people, including two women, have been arrested after a woman was allegedly abducted, stripped and assaulted over unpaid loan interest in Bengaluru. The accused also allegedly recorded the assault and threatened to circulate the video online, according to police and reports.
The accused have been identified as Nazrath, Reshma, Suheil and Saif. The case came to light after the victim’s mother filed a missing-person complaint when the woman could not be contacted. Police subsequently traced and rescued her, following which arrests were made. The investigation is continuing.
Woman allegedly targeted over loan payments
According to the complaint details reported by NDTV, the woman had borrowed Rs 1 lakh from Reshma about two years ago. She had reportedly been unable to pay the interest for around six months because of financial difficulties.
The woman had also borrowed Rs 50,000 from Nazrath, whom she reportedly knew through Reshma. She had been making weekly payments of Rs 5,000 but allegedly could not continue the payments for around four weeks.
Facing difficulties in meeting the financial demands, the woman reportedly blocked Reshma’s phone number and moved to another location, fearing continued harassment.
The dispute over the unpaid amounts allegedly escalated into a much more serious incident when the woman was contacted by Nazrath.
Woman allegedly lured with promise of work
According to the victim’s account, Nazrath contacted her and offered work for which she would be paid. The woman subsequently went to Nazrath’s house.
She allegedly faced abuse and assault there. Reports said Reshma and Suheil were also present during the incident.
The woman has further alleged that she was forced into an autorickshaw. Reshma and Nazrath allegedly sat alongside her, while Suheil and other individuals accompanied them.
The group allegedly took her to a house near Kumbalgodu on the outskirts of Bengaluru, where she was confined.
Police are investigating the sequence of events, including the circumstances under which the woman was allegedly taken to the house and held there.
Assault allegedly filmed on mobile phone
The victim has alleged that she was stripped and assaulted while being held at the house.
The incident was also allegedly recorded on a mobile phone. According to the reports, the accused threatened to circulate the video online if the woman did not meet their demands relating to the money.
The alleged use of a video to threaten or intimidate the victim has added another serious dimension to the case. Police are investigating the allegations and the role of each of the accused.
The reports do not indicate that the video has been publicly circulated, and no such claim should be made without confirmation from investigators.
Mother filed missing complaint
The incident came to police attention after the woman’s mother became concerned about her whereabouts and filed a missing-person complaint at Chandra Layout police station.
Following the complaint, police traced the woman and secured her. She subsequently provided information about the alleged assault and the people involved.
Police then arrested the accused and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction and assault.
There are some differences between reports regarding the number of people arrested and the names mentioned. NDTV reported the arrest of four people — Nazrath, Reshma, Suheil and Saif — while another report cited three arrests. The latest NDTV account identifies four accused as arrested.
Investigation into loan-related harassment
The case has highlighted the risks associated with aggressive recovery of private loans. A financial dispute, according to the complaint, allegedly escalated into physical violence, confinement and threats involving private video footage.
The victim’s allegations will now have to be examined by investigators through statements, medical evidence, digital evidence and other material collected during the probe.
Police will also determine the individual roles of those arrested and whether additional people were involved in the alleged incident.
The allegations remain subject to investigation, and the arrests do not by themselves establish guilt. The accused will have the opportunity to defend themselves through the legal process.

The Bengaluru police investigation is continuing, with authorities examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction, assault and filming of the woman.
