A 27-year-old woman from Bengaluru died under tragic circumstances during a trip to Kodagu after she was found unconscious inside the bathroom of a homestay in Kalkanduru village.

The deceased has been identified as Vinutha, an employee of a private company in Bengaluru. She had travelled to Kodagu along with 14 colleagues for a two-day outing and was staying at a homestay in the village.

Found unconscious in bathroom

According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday morning when the group was preparing to leave for a temple visit in Kerala.

Vinutha reportedly went to take a bath but did not return for a prolonged period. She was later found unconscious inside the bathroom.

Despite efforts to help her, she could not be revived.

Carbon monoxide poisoning suspected

Preliminary investigations suggest that Vinutha may have suffocated after inhaling carbon monoxide allegedly leaking from a gas geyser installed in the bathroom.

Police said the bathroom was relatively small and had limited ventilation, with only a small window. Investigators are examining whether the enclosed space may have contributed to the accumulation of harmful gases.

Officials noted that the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem examination report is received.

Safety concerns highlighted

The incident has once again drawn attention to the risks associated with gas geysers installed in poorly ventilated spaces.

Experts have repeatedly stressed the importance of adequate ventilation, regular maintenance and proper installation of gas-powered appliances to prevent carbon monoxide exposure.

Police investigation underway

The Somwarpet police have registered a case and initiated further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem findings before determining the final cause of death.
