A 24-year-old man from Noojibalthila village in Dakshina Kannada district was found dead in his rented room in Bengaluru on November 11, in what police suspect to be a case of suicide. The deceased, identified as Jubin Thomas, was reportedly preparing to move abroad for a new job opportunity in the hospitality sector.
Background of the deceased
Jubin, a resident of Badibagilu near Noojibalthila in Kadaba taluk, had completed his studies in hotel management and was employed in the hospitality industry in Bengaluru. According to family sources, he had recently resigned from his job and was in the process of finalising documents for his overseas employment.
Relatives and friends described him as a cheerful and ambitious young man who was eager to begin a new chapter in his career. His sudden death has left the family and local community in deep shock.
Incident and police response
As per reports, Jubin was found hanging in his room on the morning of November 11. His roommates alerted the local police after discovering him unresponsive. A police team rushed to the scene and conducted preliminary investigations.
Officials confirmed that no suicide note was found at the location. The body was later sent for post-mortem examination. “The reason behind the suicide is yet to be determined. We are awaiting the post-mortem report and will record statements from the family and colleagues,” an investigating officer said.
Family in shock, motive unclear
Family members in Noojibalthila said that Jubin had last spoken to them a few days earlier and had not mentioned any distress. They suspect that work-related stress or personal issues may have contributed to his decision. Police have not ruled out any angle and are examining his recent communications and activities.
Broader concerns about mental health
The tragic incident has once again highlighted the growing mental health challenges faced by young professionals living away from home. Experts say that the transition between jobs, uncertainty about future prospects, and isolation in urban settings can contribute to emotional distress if not addressed in time.
Counsellors emphasise the importance of reaching out for help during times of anxiety or depression. “Many individuals suffer in silence due to stigma or fear of judgment. It is crucial to normalise conversations around mental health and create support networks,” said a Bengaluru-based psychologist.
Investigation underway
Kadaba police have registered a case of unnatural death and are continuing their investigation. Efforts are being made to trace the last people Jubin interacted with before his death. Police sources added that they are coordinating with the hotel management institute and his former employer to gather more background information.
The final report will be submitted after forensic and medical results are received. Authorities have urged the public not to speculate on the cause until the investigation concludes.
Conclusion
Jubin’s untimely death serves as a sobering reminder of the mental health struggles faced by many young professionals. His family hopes that the ongoing investigation will bring clarity to the circumstances surrounding his passing.
