Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya voiced strong criticism over Bengaluru’s crumbling infrastructure after attending the TCS World 10K run on Sunday. He called the conditions a “shame” for the city’s reputation, stating that even the Central Business District (CBD) — supposedly the city’s best area — was riddled with potholes, much like the more neglected suburbs.
Surya shared on X (formerly Twitter) that no stretch was free from hazards. Numerous runners tripped, twisted their ankles, and suffered injuries. Elderly participants found it difficult to walk safely, while those in wheelchairs needed constant help — not due to their disability, but because of the poor state of the roads.
In his detailed post, he also pointed out the scattered garbage mounds and damaged sidewalks along the route. Surya noted that it sent a dismal message about “Brand Bengaluru,” especially when thousands of athletes train and travel with enthusiasm for this global event.
He expressed frustration that instead of offering a world-class running experience, participants had to endure an obstacle course filled with dust, debris, and potholes. “Hosting a Gold Label event should have been a moment of pride, yet the city resembled a giant construction zone,” he remarked.
Blaming the minister overseeing Bengaluru and the BBMP commissioner, Surya demanded immediate action. He stressed that fixing the roads isn’t just about international events, but about dignity and safety for every Bengalurean.
