Bengaluru has once again grabbed attention for its unusual weather. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded only 58 mm of rainfall this June — almost half of the usual monthly average of 110.3 mm. This marks the driest June in the past eight years.
Interestingly, despite the lack of rain, Bengaluru also experienced cooler-than-normal temperatures. The average maximum temperature hovered around 29.1°C, making it the city’s coolest June in seven years.
A social media update from ‘Bengaluru Weather’ highlighted: “#Bengaluru city #IMD observatory recorded a total rainfall of 58 mm this June against an average of 110.3 mm, making it the driest June in 8 years. However, the average max temperature was 29.1°C, the coolest June in 7 years.”
In mid-June, daytime highs dropped to 26°C — cooler than popular hill destinations like Srinagar and Lonavala, which saw temperatures around 29°C.
By contrast, June 2024 was marked by intense heat, with Bengaluru touching 35.4°C.
While the city faced a rainfall shortfall in June, Karnataka experienced an opposite trend earlier in the year. Between March and May, the state received “excess” to “very heavy” rainfall, sparing only Chamarajanagara district.
The pre-monsoon season brought tragedy across Karnataka, with 71 deaths reported since April due to heavy rains. Officials claim the 2025 pre-monsoon rainfall is the highest in 125 years.
