In Bengaluru, friends and tech enthusiasts Punjit Sharma and Karthik Balakrishnan have successfully brought the global puzzle-solving event Puzzled Pint to the city, making it the only location in India to host it in its original format. Karthik’s experience at a Puzzled Pint session in San Francisco inspired them to reach out to the San Francisco chapter for assistance in launching the Bengaluru edition.
Puzzled Pint events allow participants to solve themed puzzles together, fostering social connections over drinks. Participants enjoy a variety of puzzles, including pop culture-themed crosswords and anagrams, creating a competitive yet fun atmosphere. Regular attendee Suraj Mangesh emphasizes the importance of the social aspect, stating, “It’s a nice way to expand your social circle.”
Events are typically held midweek, providing a relaxing way to unwind after work. Participants solve a series of challenging puzzles, often forming new teams with other attendees. For some, like Subhrajyoti Sen, the experience has evolved from casual participation to forming a dedicated group of puzzle enthusiasts.
Additionally, another local initiative called Playful Pursuits offers a range of jigsaw puzzles in a communal setting, allowing attendees to solve puzzles while socializing. Organiser Asma Tajuddin highlights the diversity of puzzles available, including unique wooden pieces and nostalgic themes. The community aspect is further enriched with opportunities to buy, sell, or swap puzzles.
Both Puzzled Pint and Playful Pursuits promote cognitive benefits associated with puzzle-solving, as supported by neurologist Dr. Shobha N. Puzzles are known to enhance memory, problem-solving skills, and social interactions, contributing positively to mental health.
