The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has sealed the popular Walk in Street commercial complex in Indiranagar after the operator allegedly defaulted on licence fee payments.
Situated beneath the Namma Metro viaduct, the two-storey retail and dining destination had become a favourite among Bengaluru residents and social media users for its cafés, food outlets and vibrant open-air seating spaces.
BMRCL takes action over unpaid dues
According to BMRCL officials, the premises were sealed last month after repeated notices regarding pending licence fee payments allegedly went unanswered.
The commercial space was developed as part of BMRCL’s efforts to monetise areas beneath Metro infrastructure and create public-friendly commercial zones in the city.
Officials said action was taken following continued non-compliance with the terms of the licence agreement.
Popular destination for food lovers
Walk in Street had gained considerable attention online, attracting visitors with its mix of restaurants, cafés and social gathering spaces in the heart of Indiranagar.
Its unique location beneath the Metro corridor and pedestrian-friendly design helped it emerge as a popular hangout spot, especially among young professionals and food enthusiasts.
The closure has come as a surprise to many regular visitors who frequented the venue for dining and leisure activities.
Future of the property remains unclear
BMRCL has not yet announced the next course of action regarding the property or whether operations may resume after the dues are cleared.
The development highlights the challenges associated with managing commercial properties under public infrastructure projects, where adherence to contractual and financial obligations remains critical.
For now, one of Bengaluru’s most talked-about lifestyle destinations remains shut, with stakeholders awaiting clarity on its future. #Bengaluru #Indiranagar #WalkInStreet #NammaMetro #BMRCL #newskarnataka
