With pre-monsoon showers intensifying across Bengaluru and nearby regions, the Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) has issued a public advisory urging citizens to follow strict electrical safety precautions to prevent accidents.
Caution against damaged poles and wires
In its advisory, Bescom warned residents to stay away from slanted or damaged electric poles, snapped wires, and areas where tree branches have fallen on power lines due to strong winds and rain.
Officials highlighted that gusty weather conditions significantly increase the risk of live wires snapping and falling, posing a serious threat to public safety.
Avoid risky locations during rain
Citizens have been specifically advised not to take shelter under trees that have electric lines passing through them. Additionally, people are cautioned against moving near electric transformers during rainfall, as these areas can become highly dangerous.
The advisory stresses that even seemingly harmless contact points could carry live current during wet conditions.
Helpline and emergency response
Bescom has urged the public to immediately report any electrical hazards, such as fallen lines or accidents, by contacting the nearest sub-division office or calling the helpline number 1912.
To enhance response efficiency, citizens can also share photos and videos of electrical issues via WhatsApp to designated helpline numbers.
