A 32-year-old construction labourer from Bihar lost his life after accidentally falling from the fourth floor of an under-construction building in RT Nagar on Thursday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Raj Kumar, who had moved to Bengaluru a few months ago in search of employment and was working at a construction site in Chamundi Nagar.
Accident at construction site
According to police, the incident occurred around 7.30 am while Raj Kumar was carrying out work on the building under construction. Preliminary investigations suggest that he lost his balance and fell from the fourth floor.
The impact left him with severe injuries, prompting fellow workers at the site to immediately rush him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Despite efforts by doctors to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.
Family seeks accountability
Following the incident, the victim’s family approached the police seeking action against those responsible for ensuring safety at the worksite.
Based on the complaint, police have registered a negligence case against the building contractor and the site supervisor. Investigators are examining whether adequate safety measures were in place at the construction site at the time of the accident.
Officials are also verifying compliance with labour safety regulations and construction safety protocols.
Concerns over worker safety
The tragedy has once again brought attention to workplace safety at construction sites, where labourers often work at considerable heights and face significant occupational risks.
Experts have repeatedly stressed the importance of safety equipment such as harnesses, guardrails and protective gear to prevent fatal accidents.
Authorities said a detailed investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the incident and whether any lapses contributed to the worker’s death.
Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
