A Bengaluru techie’s attempt to comfort his upset girlfriend took an unexpected turn when he let her sit on his lap while riding his Bullet motorcycle along the busy Sarjapur Main Road. Though the act briefly lifted her spirits, it soon led to his arrest after a video of the stunt went viral on social media.
The Sarjapur police, acting suo motu, booked the Bellandur-based techie under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 281 (rash driving) and the Motor Vehicles Act. The incident, which took place at 12:30 PM on February 22, involved the techie and his friend, both originally from Chennai.
Explaining his actions, the biker said, “She was upset, and even after taking her out, her mood didn’t improve. So, I asked her to sit on my lap while riding. I never thought it would land me in a police station.”
A fellow commuter captured the dangerous stunt on video and uploaded it to X, sparking widespread outrage. Public pressure prompted the police to take action.
The techie later claimed that his Tamil Nadu-registered Bullet had already been sent back to Chennai, but authorities stated they would seize the bike once it returns.
