In a major enforcement drive, the Bengaluru Branch of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) confiscated counterfeit and non-compliant products valued at ₹2.5 crore from a leading e-commerce warehouse in South India.
The company was found stocking and distributing items that breached multiple Quality Control Orders (QCOs) issued by the Indian government and contravened the BIS Act of 2016. Many of the seized products were unlicensed, falsely displayed the ISI mark and registration symbol, and violated the conditions outlined in valid BIS certifications.
Officials discovered 104 different product types, totaling nearly 17,500 units, including gadgets such as Bluetooth earphones, wireless earbuds, portable speakers, as well as toys, footwear, and electrical cables. Several of these items fall under the mandatory BIS registration and certification norms.
Some goods were governed by the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS), while others required Mandatory BIS Certification under specific QCOs. These regulations strictly prohibit the production, stocking, or sale of goods without proper licensing and compliance with designated Indian Standards.
The enforcement team, comprising BIS Director Narender Reddy Beesu, Directors Vinodini Kishore and Premlata Sinha, and Assistant Director Piyush Kumar Gupta, led the operation.
Beyond the crackdown, the BIS team also took time to train warehouse staff, helping them understand how to verify BIS compliance before permitting sellers to stock items.
This action underscores BIS’s ongoing efforts to protect consumers from substandard and deceptive products.
