Bengaluru: Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has dismissed claims circulating on social media and through advertisements that cricket fans would be allowed to travel free on Namma Metro services on Sunday during the IPL final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.
In an official statement, BMRCL clarified that it has neither announced nor approved any scheme offering free metro travel for RCB supporters or any other category of passengers on the day of the IPL final.
The clarification comes amid the widespread circulation of posts suggesting that metro services would be available free of cost to cricket enthusiasts supporting the Bengaluru-based franchise.
BMRCL issues official clarification
BMRCL stated that the information being circulated on various social media platforms is false and misleading. The corporation emphasised that no such concession or promotional scheme has been introduced for metro commuters.
Officials urged passengers to rely only on information released through official BMRCL communication channels and avoid believing unverified claims circulating online.
The corporation noted that metro passengers are required to follow the existing fare structure and ticketing rules while using Namma Metro services.
No authorisation given for advertisements
According to the statement, BMRCL has not granted permission, authorisation or approval to any individual, organisation or entity to advertise or promote free metro travel on the specified date.
The corporation clarified that any advertisement or promotional content claiming free metro rides for IPL fans has been issued without its consent.
Officials reiterated that the metro operator has not entered into any arrangement with private entities or fan groups regarding complimentary travel services linked to the IPL final.
Advisory to passengers
BMRCL advised commuters and cricket fans to verify information through official sources before making travel plans. The corporation warned that misinformation spread through unauthorised channels could create confusion among passengers.
While BMRCL has previously extended metro operating hours during major sporting events held in Bengaluru to facilitate public transport access, it clarified that no free travel scheme has been announced for the IPL final being played in Ahmedabad.
The corporation urged the public to disregard false claims and continue using metro services in accordance with existing travel guidelines and fare regulations.
