Bengaluru: A Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus conductor has earned widespread praise after going the extra mile to return a college student’s lost wallet, with the heartwarming incident highlighting the dedication and integrity of the city’s public transport staff.

The incident came to light after the student shared the experience on social media, describing how the wallet, lost on a BMTC Route 234A bus, was safely returned the following day.

Wallet found on bus to Ullala depot

According to the student, the wallet was accidentally left behind on a 234A bus heading towards the Ullala Satellite Town depot. The loss was discovered only the next morning.

The wallet contained a BMTC bus pass, Namma Metro card, and a small amount of cash.

Hoping it had been found, the student visited the depot later that day and approached the timekeeper’s office to enquire whether any lost belongings had been handed over.

Conductor recognised passenger

To the student’s surprise, a BMTC conductor recognised them immediately and called out by name.

The conductor revealed that he had found the wallet and kept it safely, intending to trace the student’s contact details through the main depot. If that had not been possible, he even planned to visit the student’s college to return it personally.

The gesture deeply moved the student, who praised the conductor’s honesty and dedication.

Advice for passengers

Sharing the experience online, the student encouraged anyone who loses belongings on a BMTC bus to visit the route’s main depot and contact the timekeeper or station master.

“The staff and conductors are actually really helpful,” the student wrote.

Social media applauds BMTC staff

The post quickly gained attention, with many users sharing similar experiences of recovering lost belongings thanks to BMTC employees.

Several praised the conductor for his honesty, while others said such stories restore faith in public service. Many also acknowledged the challenging nature of BMTC employees’ jobs and appreciated their commitment to helping passengers beyond their official duties.

The incident has been widely celebrated as a reminder that acts of kindness and integrity continue to make a difference in everyday life.
