Multiple Regional Transport Office (RTO) facilities across Bengaluru were subjected to extensive security inspections on Tuesday after receiving a bomb threat e-mail that triggered concern among authorities.
The threatening message was reportedly sent to RTO offices located in Kasturinagar, Jnanabharathi, Talaghattapura and HSR Layout.
Threat claimed explosives had been planted
According to police sources, the anonymous e-mail claimed that “cyanide gas isopropanol bombs” had been planted inside the RTO premises and would begin exploding from 1.15 pm.
The sender specifically mentioned washrooms as the first locations that would be targeted and included instructions advising people to cover their noses and mouths during evacuation.
The message also contained references to alleged drug money, extremist organisations and a movie, leading investigators to suspect that it was designed to create panic and disrupt normal functioning.
Police launch immediate security checks
Following the alert, local police personnel, bomb detection squads and security teams rushed to the affected offices and carried out detailed inspections of the premises.
Authorities thoroughly searched the buildings, including public areas, offices and washrooms, to rule out any potential threat.
After extensive checks, officials confirmed that no explosives, hazardous materials or suspicious objects were found at any of the locations.
Normal operations resumed after security personnel declared the premises safe.
Investigation underway
Police said the threatening e-mail had been sent from an anonymous account and was signed in the name of a banned organisation.
Investigators are now working to trace the sender and determine the origin of the message.
Separate cases have been registered under the jurisdiction of the respective police stations, and further investigation is underway.
Authorities have urged the public not to panic and assured that all necessary precautions were taken to ensure public safety.
