Bengaluru: A bomb scare at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Thursday night prompted an extensive security operation after a handwritten note claiming there was a bomb on an IndiGo flight bound for Ahmedabad was found inside the aircraft’s washroom.
According to a complaint filed by the airline’s security manager, the note read: “Don’t go Bomb Hai Please.”
Security agencies launch extensive search
Following the discovery of the note, security agencies immediately launched a thorough inspection of the aircraft.
Officials searched the plane for more than two hours as part of standard security protocols to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
The IndiGo flight, which had been scheduled to depart at 8 pm, was kept on the ground while the search operation was carried out.
Threat declared a hoax
After completing the inspection, police confirmed that no explosive or suspicious object was found on board and declared the bomb threat a hoax.
The aircraft was subsequently cleared for operations, and the flight was allowed to proceed, sources said.
Investigation underway
Police have launched an investigation to identify the person responsible for leaving the handwritten note inside the aircraft.
Authorities are expected to review CCTV footage and other evidence from the airport to trace the culprit. They have reiterated that hoax bomb threats are treated seriously as they disrupt airport operations, inconvenience passengers and divert valuable security resources
