In a heartfelt Reddit post that quickly gained traction, a Bengaluru-based tech worker opened up about his deteriorating health and mental well-being due to the relentless grind of India’s corporate culture.
The anonymous employee shared that he’s been working 14 to 16 hours daily since joining his firm in August 2022. Over the past three years, he’s put on 24 kilograms, and his sleep schedule is wrecked, with late nights and early office routines. “Am I really dying?” he asked the community, summing up the emotional and physical toll his job has taken.
Despite some professional gains, he admitted that his personal life is in shambles. He hasn’t taken a vacation in 2.5 years, not even to nearby Nandi Hills. He’s also drifted apart from his girlfriend, whom he called the only constant positive in his life.
The emotional post resonated with many, prompting a flood of support. Some urged him to quit immediately, while others advised a mental health break, encouraging him to reclaim control over his life.
Users pointed out how India’s toxic work culture and lack of boundaries have normalized such extreme burnout. A few stressed the need for firm limits, honest conversations with management, and treating health as the top priority, especially in one’s 20s.
His experience echoes a growing sentiment among Indian professionals — that no paycheck is worth sacrificing your health.
