Bengaluru: C N Bhuvaneshwari, fondly known as Bhuni, a veteran educator and lifelong mentor from Bengaluru, has been selected for the ‘Legacy of Learning’ honour at the Abhaya Bravery Award 2026 – Season 2, recognising her decades-long selfless service in education, mentorship and compassionate community upliftment.

The award will be presented on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 5 pm onwards at the Alliance Française de Bangalore Auditorium, at a ceremony organised in association with the Bangalore Sports Lovers Association (BSLA) and Team Abhaya.

Rooted in values and compassion

Born and raised in Malleshwaram, Bengaluru, Bhuvaneshwari grew up in a modest, value-driven household where integrity, discipline and empathy formed the foundation of daily life. Her mother played a pivotal role in shaping her worldview, emphasising education, ethical living and quiet service to others. Observing her mother’s compassion towards neighbours instilled in her a belief that true fulfilment lies in helping those in need.

Academic journey and passion for teaching

Bhuvaneshwari pursued higher education in science with a specialisation in statistics, developing a strong analytical foundation that later became the cornerstone of her professional career. She firmly believed that education should not merely impart knowledge but empower students with confidence and clarity, particularly those from challenging socio-economic backgrounds.

Nearly four decades of dedicated service

Devoting 38 years to the teaching profession, Bhuvaneshwari specialised in Statistics for Commerce students, leaving a lasting impact across generations. Her commitment extended far beyond classroom teaching.

She conducted free remedial classes for students who could not afford private tuition, provided career guidance and personal mentoring, and supported students in overcoming academic and emotional challenges. Many former students continue to acknowledge her as a guiding force behind their professional and personal success.

Inspiration for social service

Her motivation to serve society stems from her years as an educator, where she witnessed firsthand the struggles faced by students and their families. Strong spiritual beliefs and a personal conviction that service must be action-oriented further shaped her approach. Her charitable work has always been quiet, consistent and dignified, focused on empowerment rather than recognition.

Vision for wider community impact

If given a larger platform, Bhuvaneshwari envisions sustainable, grassroots-level initiatives centred on education, women empowerment, basic needs and environmental care.

Her proposed focus areas include:

  • Free academic support and mentorship for struggling and first-generation commerce students
  • Women empowerment initiatives, including stitching, tailoring and upcycling skills for self-reliance
  • Monthly ration support and community meals for needy families
  • Expansion of her ‘Green Balcony to Green Community’ initiative, promoting urban gardening, sapling distribution, and simple waste-management practices

Her approach emphasises low-cost, long-term impact while preserving dignity and independence.

Legacy of Learning

The ‘Legacy of Learning’ honour celebrates Bhuvaneshwari’s lifetime of selfless contribution as a teacher, mentor, homemaker, environmental advocate and philanthropist. Her journey reflects the belief that education, compassion and care for nature together form the backbone of a humane and inclusive society.
