The Bengaluru region, which includes all CBSE schools in Karnataka, recorded an impressive 98.9 per cent pass percentage in the Class 10 board examinations, matching last year’s result.

However, despite the strong performance, Bengaluru region slipped to third place among all CBSE regions. Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada retained the top spot with 99.8 per cent, while Chennai moved to second place with 99.6 per cent.

National pass percentage rises

Across India, the overall pass percentage stood at 93.7 per cent, a slight increase of 0.04 per cent compared to last year. CBSE said the result reflects students being well prepared for competency-based assessments.

Girls outperformed boys nationally, with around 95 per cent girls passing compared to 93 per cent boys.

Two board exams bring early results

For the first time, CBSE has introduced two board examinations for Class 10 students. This led to the results being announced earlier than usual, as they are typically declared in the second week of May. The second examination is scheduled for May.

Students were required to appear in at least three subjects in the first examination, considered the main board exam.

Maths paper concerns schools

While several Bengaluru schools reported excellent performances, many principals said Mathematics was the most challenging subject this year.

Educators noted that the paper was lengthy and difficult, affecting scores. In contrast, Science, Social Science, Artificial Intelligence and Information Technology saw stronger performances. English results were largely steady, though some schools reported a slight dip in language subjects.

Several students are now expected to appear for the second examination to improve their Mathematics scores.
