Bengaluru City Police have launched an extensive search operation after a man was allegedly caught on CCTV sexually assaulting a cow in central Bengaluru, sparking outrage on social media and triggering swift police action.
According to investigators, the incident reportedly took place around midnight on May 5 near Akkipete Main Road under the jurisdiction of Cottonpet Police Station.
Police said the disturbing act was captured on nearby CCTV cameras, and the footage later circulated widely online, leading to public anger and demands for immediate action.
Police register suo motu case
After reviewing the CCTV footage, police registered a suo motu case and launched an investigation treating the matter as a serious offence involving animal cruelty.
An FIR has reportedly been filed under provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Officials stated that the accused allegedly arrived at the location on a green-coloured motorcycle before committing the act. Investigators suspect he may have been under the influence of alcohol, though this has not yet been officially confirmed.
CCTV footage under analysis
Police teams are examining CCTV footage from multiple junctions and roads across the Cottonpet area to trace the accused and identify the motorcycle registration details.
Senior officials confirmed that a special team has been formed on the directions of the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner to speed up the investigation and arrest the suspect at the earliest.
Authorities have also urged the public not to circulate the alleged video further, while assuring that strict legal action is being pursued.
