🐾 Residents of AECS Layout, Brookefield, came together on Sunday to support the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Amendment) Bill, 2022, during a public awareness drive organized by Bengaluru Brigade for Animal Liberation — a collective of passionate volunteers.

The campaign aimed to educate the public about the inadequacies of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and highlight the urgency of reforming outdated provisions that currently offer minimal penalties for serious abuse. Shockingly, offenses like beating a dog or cruelly transporting chickens attract fines as low as ₹50 under existing law.

Volunteers directly engaged with citizens to explain how the 2022 Amendment Bill proposes stricter penalties, stronger enforcement, and better safeguards for animals. These changes are not only meant to prevent cruelty but also to build a more compassionate legal framework.

Stronger animal protection laws reflect a more evolved and humane society,” said Ritwik Bhonsle, animal advocate and event organiser. “This bill isn’t just about animals—it’s about the moral values we uphold as a nation.”

The campaign urged citizens to support the bill and pressure lawmakers to prioritize its passage, underscoring that protecting animals is fundamental to ethical progress.
