The Commissioner of Bengaluru East City Corporation, D S Ramesh, conducted an extensive field inspection across key localities including Horamavu Agara, Banjara Layout, Kalkere Layout, Babusapalya, and Challakere, reviewing ongoing infrastructure and civic development works.

Focus on roads, lakes and public infrastructure

The inspection covered road development, railway underpass works, lake maintenance, waste management, and issues related to footpath encroachments. During the visit, the Commissioner interacted with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and local residents, directing officials to address concerns raised on priority.

Babusapalya underpass faces delays

The Babusapalya Railway Underpass (RUB) project has been delayed due to land disputes between private parties and the Railway Department. The Commissioner instructed officials to verify that no legal stay orders are in place and to expedite completion of the pending work.

Horamavu Agara Lake to get upgrades

A maintenance tender has already been issued for Horamavu Agara Lake. Officials were directed to begin cleaning and upkeep activities immediately. Residents have requested additional amenities such as toilets, benches, walkways, and landscaped areas, for which estimates are to be prepared and included in the upcoming budget.

Road and drainage issues flagged

At Agara Lake Road, which frequently faces waterlogging, road elevation work is underway. However, asphalting has been delayed due to a shortage of bitumen. The Commissioner directed officials to complete the work as soon as material supply resumes.

In Banjara Layout, improper drainage and uneven road levels have led to water stagnation. Officials have been instructed to desilt side drains urgently and proceed with a planned 500-metre drain construction, including an additional drain on the opposite side of the road.

Action on Kalkere Lake delays

At Kalkere Lake, ongoing development works were reviewed. As the contractor has exceeded the stipulated timeline, officials were directed to initiate action for the delay. Instructions were also given to install an information board detailing the project and to repair damage caused by sewage pipeline issues.

Push for mechanised cleaning

The Commissioner also inspected mechanical sweeping machines at the Horamavu Underpass and directed officials to prepare a plan for deploying such machines under a three-year contract to improve cleanliness standards.

Citizen concerns prioritised

The visit underscored the administration’s focus on addressing civic issues through on-ground assessments and community engagement, with emphasis on timely execution and improved urban infrastructure.
