A 19-year-old college student in Bengaluru has filed a police complaint alleging that she was assaulted and threatened by a group of youths during a late-night gathering at her rented accommodation following a dispute over her mobile phone.

The incident reportedly took place on June 12 at a house shared by the student and her roommate.

Argument erupts over mobile phone

According to the complaint, Sandhya (name changed), a second-year BBA student at a private college, was at home when her roommate hosted a gathering attended by several guests.

While the guests were allegedly consuming alcohol, Sandhya chose not to participate and was having dinner separately.

The situation escalated around 12.30 am when one of the guests, identified as Kishore, allegedly took her mobile phone and began browsing through her personal WhatsApp conversations.

When Sandhya objected and asked for the phone to be returned, an argument broke out between the two.

Student alleges physical assault

In her complaint, Sandhya alleged that Kishore claimed to possess her personal videos and private chats.

As she attempted to retrieve her phone, he allegedly grabbed her head and slammed it against a wall before punching her in the face.

She further alleged that several others joined the confrontation, pulling her clothes, dragging her and verbally abusing her.

The student also claimed that the group threatened her with serious consequences if she disclosed the incident to anyone.

Emergency call prompts accused to leave

Fearing for her safety, Sandhya contacted the emergency helpline 112.

Police said the accused allegedly left the premises soon after learning that assistance had been sought.

The student later received treatment at a government hospital and subsequently approached the police.

Case registered

Based on her complaint, the Byadarahalli Police have registered a case against six youths and initiated an investigation.

Police are examining the allegations, including claims of assault, criminal intimidation and unauthorised access to the student’s personal mobile phone.

Further investigation is underway.
