Bengaluru: The release of ‘Jana Nayagan’, widely regarded as actor Vijay’s final film before his full-time political journey, witnessed massive celebrations across the country. In Bengaluru, however, one celebration inside a packed cinema hall has gone viral after fans burst firecrackers during the screening, raising concerns over safety in theatres.

Videos of the incident, widely shared on social media, show enthusiastic fans cheering as Vijay appeared on screen while lighting firecrackers inside the auditorium.

Viral video captures dramatic celebrations

The footage shows the theatre erupting in celebration with whistles, slogans and loud applause as Vijay made his on-screen appearance. A group of fans ignited crackers inside the hall, filling parts of the auditorium with smoke while other moviegoers recorded the moment on their mobile phones.

The video quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from netizens.

Social media divided over fan behaviour

While many fans praised the celebrations as a reflection of Vijay’s immense popularity and emotional farewell to cinema, others criticised the act, citing the potential danger posed by lighting firecrackers inside an enclosed public space.

Several social media users called for stricter enforcement of safety regulations in cinema halls, noting that such celebrations could put hundreds of moviegoers at risk.

‘Jana Nayagan’ opens to massive response

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan has opened to packed theatres across India and overseas. The film stars Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mamitha Baiju and Narain, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

Fans across several cities celebrated the film’s release with milk abhishekams, giant cut-outs, drum performances, DJ events and fireworks outside theatres. The Bengaluru incident, however, has become one of the most talked-about moments of the film’s opening day.

Safety concerns come into focus

The incident has once again highlighted the need for responsible celebrations inside cinema halls. While fan enthusiasm has always been associated with the release of major South Indian films, safety experts have repeatedly warned against using firecrackers or other hazardous materials inside enclosed public venues.

No injuries were reported in the Bengaluru incident.
