Bengaluru: A complaint over an incorrect food order at a Domino’s outlet in Bengaluru’s Whitefield allegedly turned violent after a customer claimed he was assaulted by a staff member with an iron rod, leaving him hospitalised.
The incident reportedly took place on July 4, when Siddhartha Shaurya (33) visited the outlet to question staff after allegedly receiving a non-vegetarian taco instead of the vegetarian item he had ordered.
Wrong order led to confrontation
According to the complaint filed with Whitefield Police, Siddhartha had ordered vegetarian garlic bread and a veg Taco Mexicana through the Domino’s outlet at around 12:55 pm. However, he alleged that he received a non-vegetarian taco instead.
He returned the order and visited the outlet along with his brother-in-law, Kushagra, to seek an explanation. What began as a routine complaint allegedly escalated into a heated argument with the staff.
Assault allegation
Siddhartha alleged that during the confrontation, one of the staff members slapped him. When he questioned the behaviour, another employee allegedly picked up an iron rod from the counter and struck him on the head with force.
He claimed he lost consciousness immediately after the attack. Bystanders and his brother-in-law reportedly came to his aid, restrained the accused staff member and alerted the police through the emergency helpline.
The injured customer was later admitted to a private hospital, where he received treatment as an inpatient.
Police begin investigation
Based on Siddhartha’s complaint, Whitefield Police have registered a case under Section 118 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt using dangerous weapons or means.
Police have also confirmed that the restaurant staff filed a counter complaint regarding the incident. Notices have been issued to those involved, and the investigation is currently underway.
Domino’s had not issued a public statement on the matter at the time of publication.
