Bengaluru: Three people, including a nine-year-old boy, sustained serious injuries after a cooking gas cylinder exploded at a warehouse within the limits of Rajarajeshwari Nagar police station on Friday morning.

The injured have been identified as Bablu, a native of Bihar who has reportedly lived in Bengaluru for around 20 years, his neighbour Lakshmamma and the nine-year-old boy. All three were admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

Fire and emergency services personnel and police rushed to the spot following the explosion and inspected the premises. The fire caused by the blast was subsequently brought under control.

Gas leak suspected before explosion

According to preliminary information, Bablu had rented a separate warehouse for his pani puri business. Gas is suspected to have leaked from a cylinder inside the premises during the night.

Investigators suspect that the gas accumulated inside the closed warehouse, creating conditions that led to the explosion.

The blast reportedly occurred when Bablu arrived at the warehouse in the morning and opened the door. The explosion triggered a fire and left three people seriously injured.

The circumstances in which the gas leaked and accumulated inside the building are yet to be fully established.

Firefighters and police inspect the premises

Fire and emergency services personnel responded to the incident and extinguished the flames. Police personnel also reached the location and began examining the scene to determine how the explosion occurred.

The investigation is focusing on the suspected gas leakage, the condition of the cylinder and the sequence of events leading to the blast.

Authorities have not yet established the exact cause of the explosion. Further investigation is under way.
