Bengaluru: Actor Darshan and six others arrested in connection with the murder of Renukaswamy from Chitradurga have officially been assigned undertrial prisoner (UTP) numbers at Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara on Friday.
The group, who were brought to the facility on Thursday night, did not participate in Independence Day celebrations and were instead kept inside the quarantine cell. Prison officials clarified that all accused are being treated on par with other inmates, dismissing speculation of special privileges similar to their earlier detention in the same case.
As per sources, the UTP numbers allotted are:
-
Pavithra Gowda – 7313
Darshan – 7314
Nagaraju R – 7315
Lakshman M – 7316
Pradosh S Rao – 7317
Additionally, two more accused, Jagadeesh alias Jagga and Anu Kumar, both residents of Chitradurga, were arrested late Thursday. They were produced before a magistrate Friday morning, remanded to judicial custody, and lodged at the same prison.
ADGP (Prisons) B Dayananda confirmed that all accused will be managed strictly according to the prison manual, with family and advocate visits allowed only as per rules. He stressed: “No special treatment will be given.” Cell allotments are still being finalized.
Since Friday was a government holiday, family members could not meet Darshan. Visits will be permitted from Monday. Prison sources indicated Darshan may be placed in the same barrack as before to avoid unnecessary interaction with other inmates, which could spark security or favoritism issues.
Meals were served according to the standard prison menu, including upma and laddu prepared for Independence Day breakfast, followed by routine lunch and dinner. It remains unconfirmed whether Darshan consumed the food.
Interestingly, Prajwal Revanna, jailed in a rape case, also skipped the Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony within the prison.
