Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed on Tuesday that senior IPS officer B Dayananda will not be reinstated as Bengaluru Police Commissioner, though his suspension has been officially revoked. Speaking to reporters, Parameshwara clarified that Dayananda will instead be appointed to a role that aligns with his rank and seniority.

The state government lifted the suspension of four police officials, including Dayananda, on Monday. These officers had been suspended in the wake of the June 4 stampede outside Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium, which left 11 people dead and 56 injured. The tragedy occurred during a celebration event for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL team.

Along with Dayananda, IPS officer Shekar H Tekkannavar and two Karnataka State Police Service officers — DySP C Balakrishna and Inspector A K Girish — were also reinstated. However, the suspension of Inspector General Vikash Kumar Vikash remains in place, as his case is pending before the Karnataka High Court. Vikash had earlier obtained relief from the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), which the state government has since challenged.

The revocation of suspensions follows the submission of reports by both a Judicial Commission and a Magisterial Committee. The officers had also submitted personal representations seeking reinstatement.

Parameshwara reiterated that the decision was taken at the cabinet level and emphasized that departmental inquiries against the officers would continue.
