Bengaluru: A 25-year-old delivery worker was allegedly abused and assaulted by a group of unidentified persons in Yelahanka New Town during the early hours of Saturday, police said.
The victim, identified as Basavaraj, is pursuing his education while also working for a quick-commerce delivery platform.
Dispute began after delivery
According to the FIR, the incident occurred at around 4.40 am after Basavaraj had delivered an order. He was travelling from 4th Phase in Yelahanka New Town towards Santhosh Nagar when some girls walking along the road allegedly abused him.
Basavaraj reportedly approached them and told them that he did not know Hindi, asking them to explain in Kannada why they were abusing him.
In his complaint, he alleged that the girls continued to abuse him, pulled his cap and attempted to assault him. He then contacted the police helpline 112 and called his acquaintance, Ashok.
Group allegedly attacked delivery worker
The girls allegedly called several others to the spot following the altercation. The FIR states that around four to five boys and girls then allegedly assaulted Basavaraj with their hands and a wooden stick found on the road.
He was allegedly hit on his back, head and nose, resulting in bleeding injuries.
When Ashok arrived at the spot and attempted to intervene and rescue him, he too was allegedly assaulted and hit on the head.
The complainant further alleged that the group abused both men using filthy language and threatened them.
Police register case
Based on Basavaraj’s complaint, the Yelahanka New Town Police have registered a case against unidentified persons under Sections 118, 126, 351, 352 and 3 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police said further investigation is underway to identify those involved and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
