Bengaluru: In a daring daylight robbery, three unidentified men looted ₹45,000 in cash from employees of a soft drinks distribution company after boarding their moving delivery van and threatening them at knifepoint in Kodathi under the Varthur police station limits.
The incident took place on Saturday evening between 7 pm and 7.15 pm near the panchayat office in Kodathi when the van slowed down at a road hump while returning to the company’s premises.
Robbers boarded moving van
According to the police, one of the accused climbed into the van through the left-side door as the vehicle slowed down and threatened the three employees with a knife, ordering the driver to continue driving. Within 200 metres, a second accused entered the van, while a third accomplice followed them on a motorcycle.
The two men inside the van snatched the day’s cash collection of ₹45,000 before fleeing on the waiting motorcycle with their accomplice.
Cash collected from several shops
The complaint was lodged by G Munna Kumar (24), a resident of Kodathi Gate on Sarjapur Main Road. He works for a company that distributes soft drinks to retail outlets.
Police said Munna Kumar, along with colleagues Ajay Kumar and Girish, had collected cash after delivering soft drinks to around 25 to 30 shops across Hosa Road, Kudlu Road, Begur Road and nearby areas. They were returning to the company when the robbery occurred.
Police suspect prior knowledge
Investigators believe the accused may have known the delivery team’s routine and were aware that they would be carrying the day’s cash collection.
“As per the complainant, the accused robbed them while the van was on the move. They took away the cash collected from shops. It appears they knew the staff would be returning after collecting money. We are checking whether any of the accused were known to the employees,” a police officer said.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify and trace the three suspects.
