Bengaluru: The dengue outbreak in Karnataka is intensifying, with 175 new cases reported yesterday. Among these, 115 cases were registered in Bangalore alone. Since the beginning of the year until now, the state has recorded over 7,000 dengue cases. The situation has become dire as two individuals died within three days in Mysore and four deaths occurred in Hubballi.

Dr. S. F. Kammar, Director of Hubballi Kims Hospital, disclosed that all four deaths were from the pediatric ward and no fatalities have been reported from the Madison Ward so far. Dharwad district has fortunately not recorded any dengue-related deaths; however, four patients from other districts have succumbed to the disease.

Currently, there are two patients receiving treatment in the ICU at Madison Ward and another 18 children in intensive care at the pediatric ward. Dr. Kammar assured people that there is no need to panic.

In response to the escalating situation, BJP MLA Mahesh Tenginakai visited KIM’s Hospital and acknowledged that more patients have been admitted recently due to dengue cases. He expressed satisfaction with the quality of treatment provided by Kims Hospital and emphasized that fogging should be carried out regularly across all 82 wards of Hubli Dharwad Corporation.

Meanwhile, Mysore district reported its second victim as Lalitha—a staff member at Jayadeva Heart Hospital—succumbed to dengue fever. Another health officer from Hunsur community also lost their life due to dengue.

The district of Nanjangud is grappling with an increasing number of dengue and chikungunya cases—23 individuals diagnosed with dengue and nine with chikungunya thus far. A meeting was held under MLA Darshan Dhruvanarayana’s leadership at Nanjangud THO office hall to address this issue and raise awareness about infectious diseases.

During a separate meeting led by District In-Charge Minister HC Mahadevappa regarding rising dengue cases in Mysore, a poster on controlling dengue was released for public information dissemination purposes.
District Collector Laxmikaranteddy City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar ZP CEO Gayatri DHO Dr Kumaraswamy attended this meeting along with other officials.
