Bengaluru: With the arrival of the rainy season and relief from drought, Karnataka is grappling with a surge in dengue cases. The number of reported cases has crossed 10,000, surpassing last year’s figures. Health Minister Dinesh Gundurao revealed that over 68,000 suspected cases have been registered this year, posing a severe public health concern.
The government has responded to the outbreak by forming a special task force within the health department to tackle dengue fever with the same level of seriousness as COVID-19. Areas where two or three cases are detected are being identified as hotspots. Additionally, fever clinics have been set up across several parts of the state.
To mitigate further spread, the state government is taking preventive measures and advising caution until September.
The impact of dengue has also heavily affected Bengaluru, with hospitals overwhelmed by patients. In just 24 hours alone, there were 435 new dengue-positive cases in Karnataka, out of which 363 were from Bengaluru. This surge brings the total number of reported cases to 3,487 within this city alone.
