A disc jockey working in Bengaluru was detained at Kempegowda International Airport after allegedly making a remark referring to a bomb during an argument with airline staff when he was denied boarding for arriving late.
The accused has been identified as Rajatesh Bera (40), a native of North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal.
Argument broke out at boarding gate
According to police, the incident occurred on March 11 when Bera was scheduled to travel from Bengaluru to Raipur on an IndiGo flight.
He reportedly reached Gate No. 16 at Terminal 1 after the boarding process had already closed. Airline staff denied him entry as he had arrived late for the flight.
Police said an argument broke out between Bera and the airline staff during which he allegedly made a remark suggesting that the flight would stop if there was a bomb inside the aircraft.
Security protocols triggered
The mention of the word “bomb” immediately triggered security protocols at the airport.
Security personnel detained Bera and handed him over to the police. As part of standard procedure, a Bomb Threat Assessment Committee was constituted to evaluate the seriousness of the statement.
Airport authorities conducted necessary checks to ensure there was no actual security threat.
Case registered under BNS
Based on a complaint filed by airline staff, police registered a case against Bera under Section 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and Section 353 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During questioning, Bera reportedly told police that he was trying to board the flight urgently because his father was unwell.
Police said he was later released on bail and further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
