A 24-year-old postgraduate agriculture student died after accidentally falling from a jackfruit tree inside the University of Agricultural Sciences (GKVK) campus in north Bengaluru during the early hours of Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Akash K, a native of Kudligi and a final-year MSc (Agriculture) student.

Accident occurred during late-night fruit picking

According to police, Akash and two of his friends, Hasan Basha and Prashanth, entered the campus around 12.30 am to pluck jamun fruits. After collecting the fruits, the group reportedly moved to another part of the campus at around 1.30 am to pluck jackfruits.

While climbing the tree, Akash allegedly lost his footing and fell to the ground, suffering severe injuries to his head and shoulder.

His friends immediately rushed him to the government hospital in Yelahanka. He was later referred to a private hospital for advanced treatment, but doctors declared him brought dead.

Police begin investigation

Based on a complaint filed by Akash’s parents, the Yelahanka Police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation into the incident.

Officials said further inquiries are underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.

Remembered for academic excellence and service

Akash was widely respected for his academic achievements and contributions to community service. He was an active volunteer with the National Service Scheme (NSS) and had received the President’s Award for Best Volunteer.

He also represented Karnataka at the Republic Day Parade in 2024, earning recognition for his dedication and leadership.

Coming from a farming family, Akash had secured admission to the postgraduate agriculture programme through the government quota.
