Bengaluru: A dispute over walking a pet dog inside an apartment complex escalated into a physical altercation involving several senior citizens and a resident in the Varthur area of the city. Police have registered complaints from both sides and are currently investigating the incident.
The incident reportedly took place at Brigade Eutopia East Antopia Apartment when a resident, identified as Tarun Arora, had taken his pet dog out for a walk inside the residential complex. According to a police complaint, the apartment has a designated space where senior citizens regularly gather to walk and exercise.
Authorities said the dispute began when Arora allegedly brought his dog close to the walking zone used by elderly residents. Some senior citizens present in the area questioned him about allowing the dog to come near the exercise space and allegedly urinate nearby, which led to a heated argument.
Argument turns physical
The verbal exchange soon escalated into a physical confrontation. According to the complaint filed by Arora, seven to eight senior citizens allegedly assaulted him during the argument. He claimed that he was kicked and attacked with hands during the incident.
The situation reportedly intensified for a few moments before a woman present at the location intervened and separated the individuals involved, preventing the altercation from worsening. Residents nearby also gathered after hearing the commotion.
Following the incident, Arora approached the Varthur Police Station and filed a complaint alleging that he had been physically assaulted by the group of senior citizens.
Counter-complaint filed
The case took another turn when a woman from the group of senior citizens filed a counter-complaint against Arora. According to her statement, the confrontation began when they questioned him about bringing the dog into the walking area and allowing it to urinate there.
She alleged that Arora reacted aggressively to their objections and physically attacked them during the argument. The woman further claimed that he threatened the elderly residents and allegedly intimidated them by stating that their children live abroad and that he would not spare them.
The complainant stated that the senior citizens now fear for their safety and have sought police protection following the incident.
CCTV footage under review
Police officials said CCTV footage from the apartment complex has been examined as part of the investigation. The footage reportedly shows a group of senior citizens exercising inside the complex while Arora walks his dog nearby.
The video captures a confrontation between the parties, during which one of the elderly men is seen throwing Arora’s mobile phone from his hand. The footage also shows the altercation escalating into a brief physical scuffle before bystanders intervene.
Investigators are reviewing the video along with statements from both sides to determine the sequence of events and identify those responsible for the alleged assault.
Investigation underway
Police officials said both complaints have been registered and are being examined carefully. Officers are also interacting with residents of the apartment complex to gather additional information about the incident.
Authorities emphasised that such disputes within residential communities should ideally be resolved through dialogue and cooperation among residents. They have also advised apartment associations to clearly communicate guidelines regarding pet movement and use of common areas to prevent similar conflicts in the future.
