Bengaluru: A 51-year-old domestic help has been arrested by the Jayanagar police for allegedly stealing gold jewellery, silver articles, cash and other valuables worth around ₹50 lakh from her employer’s residence in Bengaluru.
The accused, identified as Jayanthi, had been working at the family’s house in Jayanagar 5th Block for the past 18 years.
Valuables worth ₹50 lakh recovered
According to police, a search of the accused’s house led to the recovery of 262 grams of gold jewellery, 2.366 kg of silver biscuits and other silver articles, ₹65,000 in cash and five silk sarees.
The total value of the recovered property is estimated at around ₹50 lakh.
Officials said the woman was taken into custody and allegedly confessed to the theft during questioning.
Recovery exceeds complaint
Interestingly, police said the valuables recovered from the accused exceeded the quantity of items reported missing by the complainant.
“The recovery from the suspect has been more than what the complaint had claimed was stolen,” a senior police officer said.
Investigators are now verifying whether additional valuables recovered from the accused also belong to the complainant or are linked to other theft cases.
Investigation continues
The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the law, and further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the theft and whether any accomplices were involved.
Police have also urged residents employing domestic workers to maintain proper records, conduct background verification and securely store valuables to prevent such incidents.
