According to reports, two driverless-capable trainsets will soon be delivered to the Byappanahalli depot to initiate testing. Officials indicated that trials for the ORR Metro corridor are expected to begin by May.
The trains will undergo rigorous testing and validation for at least five months to ensure safety, reliability, and system integration before being approved for passenger services.
Blue Line to ease ORR connectivity
The Blue Line is one of Bengaluru’s most anticipated metro corridors, aimed at easing traffic congestion along the busy Outer Ring Road. The 18 km elevated stretch between Central Silk Board and KR Pura is scheduled for completion by December 2026.
This corridor is expected to significantly benefit daily commuters, particularly those working in major IT hubs located along the ORR stretch.
Airport connectivity in next phase
The extended section of the Blue Line from KR Pura to Kempegowda International Airport, covering approximately 37 km, is targeted for completion by December 2027.
Once operational, this line will provide seamless metro connectivity between the city and the airport, reducing travel time and dependence on road transport.
Step towards modern urban mobility
The introduction of driverless-capable trains reflects Bengaluru’s push towards modern, efficient, and technology-driven public transport. Officials believe the project will enhance commuter experience while supporting the city’s growing infrastructure needs.
