Five allegedly intoxicated men threatened to set a restaurant on fire and attempted to assault its owner after being told the establishment had closed for the day in Kengeri on Friday night.
Late-night confrontation sparks panic
The incident took place at around 11.30 pm at Rajarathna Restaurant near Shirke Apartments. According to the restaurant owner, the five men arrived in a large car and questioned why the lights inside the restaurant were still on despite it being closed.
The group allegedly argued with the staff and issued threats to burn down the restaurant. They later moved to the parking area, where they reportedly consumed alcohol and continued creating a disturbance.
Owner says threats were repeated
Restaurant owner Madhu Kiran alleged that this was not the first time the same group had visited the establishment after business hours and intimidated the staff.
He claimed the men had previously issued similar threats, leaving employees fearful for their safety. During the latest incident, the restaurant management contacted the local police inspector seeking immediate assistance.
According to Kiran, the officer advised them to submit a written complaint instead of taking immediate action at the scene.
FIR not registered, claims owner
Kiran further alleged that police did not register a First Information Report (FIR) and instead recorded only a Non-Cognisable Report (NCR), allowing the accused to leave without stringent action.
The incident has reportedly left the restaurant staff shaken. Kiran said a couple of employees did not report for work the following day due to fear after the confrontation.
Police are yet to comment on the allegations regarding the handling of the complaint. Further investigation is expected based on the complaint submitted by the restaurant owner.
