A night of terror unfolded in Kurabarahalli Doddi, Ramanagar, when a gang of five inebriated men launched a violent attack on Elephant Task Force (ETF) personnel. The officers had just completed their mission of steering wild elephants away from the village when they were ambushed around 11 pm while heading home.

The assailants, fueled by alcohol, hurled verbal abuses at the officers, questioning their effectiveness and making derogatory remarks about their families. The situation escalated when they attempted to set fire to the ETF vehicle. When brute force replaced threats, the officers found themselves under direct physical assault.

Responding to an urgent distress call, Hoysala police reached the scene, only to face hostility themselves. The mob turned its aggression toward law enforcement, intensifying the chaos. Backup forces arrived swiftly, leading to the arrest of three suspects—Kiran, Prathap, and Sundar—who were traced to neighboring villages. However, two others managed to flee and remain at large.

Authorities have registered cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for interfering with government officials on duty and attempted homicide. A manhunt is underway to capture the remaining culprits.

This shocking attack highlights the dangers faced by wildlife rangers and police officers while safeguarding both humans and animals. The incident has reignited concerns over growing hostility towards conservation workers operating in high-risk areas.
