Bengaluru: From delicate gold and silver hoops hugging the helix to intricately designed peacocks and serpents, ear cuffs have become a bold fashion choice among Bengalureans, especially Gen Z and millennials. According to image consultant Bia Sandhu, these trendy accessories have been in vogue for over a year, offering a unique, funky style while remaining comfortable to wear.

The growing popularity of ear cuffs has led brands like Tanishq, Mellora, and Quirksmith to introduce them into their collections. Divya Batra, founder of Quirksmith, notes that a few years ago, everyday wear ear cuffs were rare in India. Now, they’re seen everywhere, available in traditional, contemporary, and minimalist designs.

While they may seem like a recent trend, ear cuffs have a rich history. Variations have been found in British burial sites dating back to 4,300 BC, depicted on ancient Greek aristocrats, and even carved in Indian temples. Legends suggest Cleopatra adored ear cuffs, and stars like Marilyn Monroe wore them in the 1950s, proving that fashion is cyclical.

Today, celebrities like Ananya Panday, Margot Robbie, and Hailey Bieber are reviving the trend, inspiring both men and women to experiment. Non-binary entrepreneur Aryan Gulati embraced ear cuffs as part of their evolving style, while K-Pop fans like Alina Ajmal appreciate them as a piercing-free alternative.

Style Tip for Beginners:

Avoid symmetry. Wearing an ear cuff on just one ear creates an asymmetrical, eye-catching effect. Plus, it’s more practical for phone calls!
