Bengaluru: An 86-year-old man was killed in a road accident after a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus allegedly ran him over while he was crossing a road near the RMC Yard police station in north Bengaluru on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Doreswamy, a resident of Malleswaram, police said.
Accident occurred while crossing the road
According to police, the accident took place at around 9.45 am near the RMC Yard police station when Doreswamy was attempting to cross the road.
A KSRTC bus travelling from Bengaluru to Arakalgud allegedly hit him, resulting in fatal injuries. He died on the spot before medical assistance could arrive.
Victim had left home early
Police said Doreswamy had left his residence early on Sunday morning without informing his family.
Originally from Tamil Nadu, he had been living in Malleswaram for nearly 30 years and was working as a daily wage labourer.
Police register case
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s daughter, the Yeshwantpur Traffic Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
Police are examining the circumstances leading to the accident and will determine whether any negligence was involved.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over pedestrian safety in Bengaluru, where accidents involving senior citizens continue to raise questions about road safety and traffic management.
