A fallout over a failed marriage proposal between two families has led to a police case in Bengaluru after a woman alleged online abuse, threats and criminal intimidation by two relatives.
According to police, a 45-year-old woman from Indiranagar 2nd Stage approached authorities claiming that two male relatives posted abusive and derogatory messages against her in a WhatsApp group named ‘D K Boss’.
The group was reportedly created by members of both families to stay connected during marriage discussions.
Abusive messages and serious threats alleged
The complainant alleged that the messages were insulting in nature and intended to defame her publicly.
She further stated that on April 14, the accused threatened to kill her husband, carry out an acid attack on her, sexually assault her, and burn her alive.
The woman also accused the duo of spreading false claims that she was suffering from cancer, causing emotional distress to her family and damaging her reputation.
Police register FIR
Following the complaint, police registered an FIR and began an investigation into the matter.
Officials said both families were known to each other and tensions reportedly escalated after the marriage proposal did not materialise.
Investigators found that members of both sides allegedly exchanged abusive messages in the WhatsApp group after relations soured.
Accused questioned
Police said the accused men, who are natives of Raichur, were questioned as part of the inquiry.
Further investigation is underway to verify the allegations, review digital evidence, and determine the next legal course of action.
Rising concern over digital abuse
The incident has once again highlighted how personal disputes are increasingly spilling onto online platforms, often leading to harassment, intimidation and lasting emotional trauma.
Authorities continue to urge citizens to use legal channels instead of resorting to threats or defamatory conduct online.
