In a major boost to rail connectivity in Karnataka, trains operating between Bengaluru and Mysuru will soon run at speeds of up to 130 kmph, significantly reducing travel time between the two cities.

Speed upgrade confirmed after trials

Union Minister of State for Railways V Somanna announced that trial runs on the corridor have successfully confirmed the feasibility of higher speeds.

Currently, trains on this route operate at a maximum speed of 110 kmph. The enhancement to 130 kmph is expected to improve efficiency and passenger convenience on one of the state’s busiest rail routes.

Inspection of key railway sections

The minister shared the update after conducting a detailed window trailing inspection of the KSR Bengaluru–Mandya–Mysuru railway sections. The review focused on infrastructure development, operational readiness, and safety measures along the corridor.

Officials assessed track conditions, signalling systems, and other upgrades required to support higher-speed operations.

Record allocation for Karnataka railways

Highlighting the Centre’s focus on railway development, Somanna noted that Karnataka has received a record budgetary allocation of ₹7,748 crore for the financial year 2026–27, compared to ₹7,564 crore in the previous year.

He added that railway projects worth ₹52,950 crore are currently underway across the state at various stages of progress.

Boost to regional connectivity

The increased speed is expected to enhance daily commuting and tourism between Bengaluru and Mysuru, benefiting thousands of passengers. The move also aligns with broader efforts to modernise railway infrastructure and improve connectivity across Karnataka
